For Resort 2027, Jonathan Simkhai understands one thing: resort wear is about the life you imagine while packing it. His latest collection moves between event dressing, vacation ease, and experimentation, creating a wardrobe made for a two-week escape to Mykonos or a glamorous night in Monaco.

Presented across 25 looks, including five menswear exits, the collection proves why resort remains such an important season for Simkhai. Simkhai’s world naturally leans toward getaway dressing, but this was not a simple exercise in floaty dresses or obvious holiday glamour. Instead, he pushed texture to the front of the conversation, using surface, weight, and fabric manipulation to give resort dressing more depth. The pieces were maximalist, not always in volume or color but in technique. Fabrics were twisted, shredded, slashed, knotted, and manipulated until wardrobe staples began to feel more emotional, more tactile, and more alive.

That approach was most convincing in the womenswear, where dresses and separates carried the tension between softness and structure. A mint strapless column dress, covered in raised embroidery, was architectural, as though botanical forms had been carved onto the body. A white fringe column dress carried a faint bridal mood, but the textured skirt made it feel modern and romantic. The red dress with black cut-out detailing brought a sharper resort glamour, using graphic contrast to make sensuality feel designed rather than obvious.

The strongest pieces were those where decoration became construction. A red sculptural top, covered in dense floral-like texture and worn with black trousers, had the spirit of couture without losing the ease of ready-to-wear. A black beaded fringe dress turned craft into movement, its hanging strands giving the body rhythm. The white slashed jacket paired with a beaded clutch pushed the idea even further, turning negative space into a design principle.

Simkhai’s most convincing move is that he never allows texture to become the whole story. Even when the surfaces are dense, the silhouettes stay controlled, with clean column dresses, easy trousers and functional outerwear keeping the experimentation grounded in wearability.

Menswear, meanwhile, is becoming one of the most exciting parts of Simkhai’s world. For the UPTOWNMAN reader, this season felt like a treat. The five menswear looks had presence: a wrapped beige coat with a high funnel collar read like modern city armor, protective but elegant, while a suede utility set softened workwear by stripping it of its usual roughness. A green knit polo with grey trousers offered a refined casualness, sitting somewhere between collegiate ease and adult dressing. The darker looks gave the menswear a more sensual edge, from a leather jacket worn with brown tailoring that hinted at 1970s city dressing to a black technical jacket that added rigor.

Simkhai Resort 2027 succeeds because it treats vacation dressing as something more layered than escape. These are clothes for movement, climate, events, and mood. They are glamorous; they have surface, feeling, and technique.
