Dior recently announced a collaboration with the Italian fashion label Stone Island, founded in 1982 by Massimo Osti. Stone Island is known for its uniform and workwear-inspired pieces, exceptional machine princesses, and meticulous functional detailing. In contrast, Dior embodies romance, femininity, and extravagance, playing a pivotal role in Parisian haute couture and fashion. This collaboration is a blend of the strengths of both brands to create a capsule collection that appeals to their respective audiences.
According to Dior, the collaboration features silk, a material that both brands have been known to use. Stone Island’s signature dyeing techniques were used throughout the collection, while Dior incorporated its iconic “double pleat” tailoring motif from the Spring-Summer 1952 haute couture collection. Some of the best pieces include a grey bomber jacket with floral appliques and dangling pearls and a blush blue utility vest. The shoes were a combination of functional and utilitarian design with traditional, formal shoemaking. Dior’s classic Derby and boots, inspired by climbing shoe construction, feature a thick, three-moulded sole. The sneakers are crafted from Stone Island’s cotton sateen with Dior Oblique designs. As for the bags, they are modern and functional and showcase advanced usability and technical precision.
