The Korean Beauty Brands Rewriting Mens Grooming

K-skincare has already earned its sterling reputation through hydration, texture, and that particular obsession with skin that looks alive rather than covered. Now Korean makeup is entering the same conversation.

BY JAY AQUINO JUNE 6, 2026

For years, men were told that grooming had limits. A cleanser was acceptable. Moisturizer was progressive. SPF was responsible. But makeup? That was treated as a line no man was supposed to cross. The truth, of course, is that men have been crossing it for decades. Red carpets do not happen by accident. Austin Butler, Nick Jonas, Rami Malek, Michael B. Jordan, and most men photographed under unforgiving flash have understood the same thing actors, musicians, and public figures have known: that a little complexion work is not vanity.

Men’s grooming has evolved because the definition of masculinity has evolved. The new generation is less interested in performing toughness for strangers and more interested in looking considered, fresh, and awake. A man can care about his skin, soften redness, even out tone, add a little glow, and still be entirely himself. In fact, that may be the point. Good makeup simply makes you look like you slept well, drank water, and somehow managed to avoid stress.

This is where Korean beauty becomes especially useful. K-skincare has already earned its sterling reputation through hydration, texture, and that particular obsession with skin that looks alive rather than covered. Now Korean makeup is entering the same conversation. It is not necessarily about contouring a new face into existence. At its best, it's all about better skin, softer texture, controlled shine, and a finish that looks believable in daylight.

Hera

Launched by Amorepacific in 1995, Hera has long positioned itself around contemporary Seoul beauty and a more sophisticated idea of modern luxury. After Jennie of BLACKPINK helped define its global image, Felix of Stray Kids became one of its most important new faces, marking a notable moment for a luxury Korean beauty brand speaking directly to men as well as women.

Its Reflection Skin Glow Foundation is exactly the kind of product that makes sense for a man trying makeup for the first time. With multi-sized hyaluronic acid and a serum-like texture, it creates a smoother, more hydrated surface while giving the skin a refined, natural glow.

Laka

The brand is widely described as Korea’s first gender-neutral makeup brand, built around minimalist products designed for self-expression. Its Fruity Lip Glotioner is a smart entry point. Men often underestimate lips until they look dry, pale, or cracked in photos. A peptide-powered lip serum with raspberry seed oil adds moisture, softness, and a subtle cushion without feeling overly cosmetic.

TirTir

TirTir has become one of the great modern K-beauty success stories. Its Mask Fit Red Cushion became widely discussed not only because of its finish, but because it addressed one of Korean beauty’s more persistent limitations: shade range. The expansion to 40 shades by August 2024 was a meaningful move for complexion makeup. With BTS’s V later attached as global ambassador, the brand gained cultural force, but the product’s real value remains practical. It offers coverage, portability, and ease without requiring a drawer full of tools.

For men, cushions are particularly practical. They are quick, they do not require brushes, and they can be applied in controlled amounts. A light press over redness, uneven tone, or shine can make the face look cleaner without making it look different. That is the sweet spot.

Espoir

Also owned by Amore[acific, Espoir is known for makeup with a more polished, performance-led sensibility. Its Pro Tailor Be Velvet Cover Cushion is made for coverage, but the appeal is in how velvety, matte, breathable, and useful it is for oily or combination skin. It blurs pores, softens redness, and manages shine without the heavy, cakey finish that makes many men nervous about foundation.

None of this means every man needs makeup. He does not. The point is that makeup no longer needs to be treated as a grand declaration. It can be a better lip product before a long day, a cushion foundation before a wedding, or a skin-glow base before dinner. Men already use fragrance, hair products, clothing, watches, and skincare to shape how they move through the world. Makeup belongs in the same conversation when it is used with taste.

For the man curious about makeup, the best advice is to start quietly. Choose products that improve texture rather than transform features. Check if it matches your undertone, don’t apply too much, and make sure to check it in natural light. Remember, the goal is not to look like someone else but to look like yourself, edited with taste.

Society may still have opinions about what men are “supposed” to do. But society has also been wrong about clothing, skincare, jewelry, fragrance, and almost every other form of male refinement before accepting them as normal. Makeup is simply next in line, and Korean brands are making that transition easier and far less intimidating.
